MY STORY

I grew up in my Mom’s kitchen alongside my two brothers. She guided and taught us all to become cooks as fantastic as she is. We are definitely a foodie family - even my Dad is a great cook! When I think of family, I picture all of us sitting around a table piled high with a sumptuous feast. Everything I know about food I owe to my parents who later on in life helped me come to the realisation that I should become a chef.

I have been very fortunate to have traveled through Europe and the UK and have even lived in the United States . I could never have imagined the world of flavours and cultures I would come to experience - I tried and tasted everything! To this day I still try my best to immerse myself in my surroundings - these experiences are a story I like to tell through both cooking and baking.

Upon graduation at chef school, I was lucky to be offered the chef position at Anyas Mum's Café, a small deli-restaurant in Hermanus in the Western Cape. Here the theme was healthy, rustic and homely. I really had the opportunity to explore and create really good, simple food and had the time to hone my baking skills. My next step was the five star Bay Hotel in Camps Bay in which I had the chance to develop as a chef and one I took up with much enthusiasm. Moving on to another five star hotel, The Westin in Cape Town, I advanced my skills in fine dining and furthered my knowledge and experience in the health and safety aspects of a large operation. My latest experience before starting Petit Gateau, and one I will always cherish was at Parc, a fine dining restaurant in Detroit, Michigan. I was afforded the opportunity to work with three Michelin star calibre chefs, an experience I will never forget.

Which brings me to you and Petit Gateau.

Dreamed up by you, brought to life by us, I created Petit Gateau on the principle of exceptional personalised service and handcrafted, beautiful cakes.
