The door bell rings. It has arrived. With childlike excitement, my husband runs downstairs to collect the package. Immediately the kitchen is filled with a distinctive aroma. I watch him, as he slowly opens the box. His eyes widen with joy and I can almost see his mouth water in anticipation. His prize is here.

Pizza is a weekly ritual in our household. A pat on the back for making it to Friday, and boy do we relish in it! America has a handful of different styles of pizza. There is Chicago deep-dish, “it’s like lasagna on a pizza!” as my husband likes to describe it. The Detroiter's like to sway from conformity, as they tend to do - they make their pizza rectangle in shape with a slightly thicker, spongier base. My personal favorite is derived from the Italian’s, with a thin and crispy base.

Supino’s Pizzeria is well known to many here in downtown Detroit. They make a mean

pizza and as you could guess, just the way I like it! When walking through the door of Supino’s – if you can get in; as it is often packed with people, you’ll find a small yet simple space. A little place, which in my opinion, houses the best pizza in Detroit.

I have been fortunate enough to try many pizzas from different regions and cities within Italy. My best-loved place for pizza was Rome. An experience I was yet to have again. Well I found it at Supino’s. Their pizza base is paper thin, with a crust that is like feasting upon a fresh loaf of ciabatta. Generous in topping and big on flavor, it is the kind of pizza you take home and think about all day, until you meet again.

I would highly suggest you visit Supino’s Pizzeria. A very reasonably priced pizzeria - they have about 13 different kinds of pizza, either red or white. You can buy some of them by the slice or even design your own. We will definitely be back.
