Ottava Via

Ottava Via

Average cost for two: $70.00

The streets of Detroit city are lined with history, failed past and new hopes of the future. To walk through them and see it all in the same place, at the same moment, is a wonderful thing. In an instant you can feel the raw emotion of desperation as you stare at an abandoned house, with flame licked walls and empty window frames. You cannot help but wonder what happened. Then you look across the street and see an impressive skyscraper, still covered in faded signs from the 1900’s – you can literally see the exciting history which created Detroit before its’ unfortunate downfall.

As you walk along further, perhaps past Eastern Market, still the largest historic market in the United States, you can see it all. The buildings are covered in beautiful pieces of artwork and the streets are packed with people.

It is just another part of the city that has made it through Detroit’s entire existence. Further west you will find historic Corktown. This is the oldest extant neighborhood in the city. It is a strangely beautiful place, not in appearance, but in its obvious history and its newfound quirkiness of today.

Corktown’s main strip is lined with a melting pot of Irish pubs, Italian restaurants, Lebanese takeout, and contemporary wine bars. Filled with a mix of age groups, singlets and families, it is a great place for a night out, a drink with friends and a great meal!

Ottava Via is one restaurant I’d suggest you try first. An Italian restaurant that was recommended to us by several people, and all for the right reasons. This restaurant caters for every type of guest; intimate dining in the restaurant, a casual evening by the fire in the courtyard, or even a social drink at their impressive bar. The restaurant is packed from the get go, coupled with a homely atmosphere and simple yet sophisticated decor. You very quickly become part of the excited chitter chatter that fills the air.

Their menu has options of cheese and charcuterie platters, small plates of Italian favorites like arancini and veal polpette, the crowd pleasing wood fired pizza and exquisite entrees of braised short rib on creamy mascarpone polenta. We tried it all. We loved it all. Service is light and friendly. All in all another top notch on Detroit’s dining belt.
